The personal data you provide when you register to the Copernicus land portal (https://land.copernicus.eu) and/or contact the Copernicus service desk (https://land.copernicus.eu/contact-form) will be processed by the European Environment Agency (EEA) and its contractors acting on behalf of the EEA in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data.
Purpose(s) of the processing:
Your personal data is collected and further processed for the purposes of responding to your individual requests, informing you about the portal updates and important events (only in case you have requested to receive such information), the improvement of the portal and reporting on the use of the portal (only in an aggregated form) to the European Commission. It will not be redistributed by any means, nor used for any other purpose.
Recipients of the data processed:
For the purpose detailed above, access to your personal data is given to EEA staff members in charge of managing the Copernicus land portal as well as to entities acting under contract with the EEA, and identified as processors in the context of the data protection legislation;
No personal data is shared with third parties for direct marketing purposes.
Categories of data processed:
The only personal data collected and further processed is the information you encode yourself in the online registration and the Copernicus service desk contact form. The compulsory fields in the online registration form concern your name, your email address, institutional domain and professional thematic domain. Only your e-mail address is mandatory in the Copernicus service desk contact form.
Modalities for the processing operation:
Personal data is provided via submission forms available online. When submitting data online, it will be an automated processing operation whereby you input the data directly in the form, which is then stored in the respective database.
Right of access and rectification:
You have no direct access to the data stored. If you wish to modify or delete any of your personal data, you should address your request to the Copernicus service desk at https://land.copernicus.eu/contact-form.
The legal basis for processing your personal data is the performance of the tasks delegated by the European Commission to the EEA for the implementation of the Copernicus land monitoring services of the Copernicus programme.
No personal data is processed and kept for historical or scientific purposes. The main use is to derive use statistics of the products and services available on the Copernicus land portal.
Right to appeal:
You are entitled to have recourse at any time to the European Data Protection Supervisor (http://www.edps.europa.eu; EDPS@edps.europa.eu) if you consider that your rights under Regulation(EC) No 45/2001 have been infringed as a result of the processing of your personal data by the EEA;

The Copernicus programme is governed by Regulation (EU) No 377/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3 April 2014 establishing the Copernicus programme and repealing Regulation (EU) No 911/2010. Within the Copernicus programme, a portfolio of land monitoring activities has been delegated by the European Union to the EEA. The land monitoring products and services are made available through the Copernicus land portal on a principle of full, open and free access, as established by the Copernicus data and information policy Regulation (EU) No 1159/2013 of 12 July 2013.
The Copernicus data and information policy is in line with the EEA policy of open and easy access to the data, information and applications derived from the activities described in its management plan.
